学术界通常认为，历史唯物主义与政治哲学是互为他者乃至相互对立的。这种观点并不成立，毋宁说这两者是内在互通的，因为历史唯物主义与政治哲学以自然为共同起点，市民社会概念将历史唯物主义与政治哲学融聚为一体，而马克思政治哲学的全部奥秘也在于唯物主义历史观。澄明历史唯物主义与政治哲学的内在会通，不仅仅是一个关涉如何在历史文本中理解马克思哲学的重大问题，同时，也是一个关涉如何在当代语境中看待马克思主义哲学各理论内容的关系，从而整体性地推动马克思主义哲学发展的重大问题。

According to the general academic understanding, historical materialism is totally different from political philosophy. Such a view is incorrect because historical materialism and  political philosophy are related and integrated to each other. Firstly, Marxist historical materialism and political philosophy evolved from the same starting point of “nature”; secondly, the concept of civil society integrates historical materialism and political philosophy; thirdly, the secret of Marxs political philosophy lies in the materialist conception of history. Clarifying the connection and integration of historical materialism and political philosophy is a significant issue not only concerning how to understand the philosophy of Marx in his texts, but also concerning how to perceive the relationship of branches of Marxist philosophy and how to promote Marxist philosophy in a comprehensive way.
