提出“重评‘京派’”，意在打破京派与海派对比研究的传统思路与方法，强调历史纵贯的角度，考察京派的形成及其与“五四”传统的内在联系，尤其肯定其在革命时代中继承与发展五四时期“人的文学”传统的特殊意义。通过对京派的思想主张与文学创作两方面的考察认为：京派是以文学的方式间接参与思想界论争。他们的出现，既体现了“五四”以后知识分子阵营的分化，又体现了在不同时代条件下、不同知识分子群体对“五四”传统的继承、调整与发展。京派作为“五四”传统的一个重要分支，不仅与“革命文学”潮流一同分享了“五四”思想资源，同时更为“五四”传统在新的时代背景下的衍生和发展做出了自己的贡献。
