Abstract

In the Chinese rural areas it is a common practice to use kin appellation to address villagers with or without consanguinity. This custom reflects the "family-like close relationship" among villagers, making the whole village sounds like one big family. In fact, this is but a manifestation of the close regional relation aimed at establishing mutual help and a means to maintain this relation and therefore secure mutual help.
