Abstract
In china,"peasant workers" are denied access to well paid jobs. The major barrier they face is discrimination. Laid off workers in the state owned enterprises, unemployed workers especially the long term unemployed, and "discouraged workers",are also disadvantaged. Trade unions in china, however, face several challenges. The Chinese government has already developed some policies, such as training and tax exemption, aiming at eradicating unemployment. The enterprises in which workers are laid off have to establish "reemployment centers",to train the laid off workers,to pay social insurance contributions, and to help them get reemployed. Given the huge population, full employment should be one of the goals of governments at all levels. It is important that government and economists should solve the problems under the market system, and that trade union should be an organization to protect worker's interests, especially to protect disadvantaged workers.
