Abstract

China now stands under such tensions among "ancient & modern"(tradition and modernity) and "Chinese & foreign"(Eastern and Western civilizations) that the original problems of temporal-spatial disparity occurred at the same time. Therefore, synthetic and historical factors other than "onefold" or "sheer" theoretical research should be taken into consideration in the study of Chinese politics. That means methods sometimes are more important than theories, for it is hard for a theory to change its direction when encountered a dilemma if it is carried through. We are in the era of globalization in which the culture diversity is characteristic of "perspectivism".The world views of different cultures are both penetrating and open, thus unlimited cultural diversity come into being.Chinese Studies refer especially to subjects researched by foreigners, not by Chinese, but these researches should be cosmopolitan anyway.A cosmopolitan view is to view China or any other country from the cosmopolitan background and to grasp the universalities and particularities of cultures or civilizations within the relations between each other. This is a pluralistic standpoint under the cosmopolitan background.
