Through dialogue and argument,Mencius demonstrated his ideological character,and constructed the content of literary criticism.In the dialogue Mencius demonstrate personality of scholars,advocated a critical spirit,and put forward a series of categories and propositions of literary criticism,such as "knowing the words and cultivating the character","knowing the man and commenting on the world" and so on.Mencius and his masterpiece Mencius had a tremendous impact on the values and methodology of ancient Chinese literary criticism.
