This article is to discuss the contribution of environmental sociology to the ideas of building a pro-environment society in China. It concludes that environmental sociology academically underlays the policies of building a pro-environment society in three aspects: firstly, highlighting the social causality of environmental problems; secondly, emphasizing the symbiosis of the social causalities; finally, committing to initiate the social reforms and constructions in need to resolve the environmental problems. Conversely, the development of environmental sociology in China will benefit much from the practices of pro-environmental society building.
